I'd been thinking of sharing this for a while, considering some die-hard sport and music fanatics I've had the chance of chatting with in the last couple of months. And then I stumbled on this article three days ago "Learning Worship From The Idolaters - Sports Fanatics", [which i believe is a MUST READ for us all]. This is a relatively sensitive point of discussion considering the level of worship our community today offers to musical and sport idols.
I remember listening to Danny Erbaugh's sermon on Relevant Worship in 2010, he shed light into how well idolaters worship their idols and how we can learn from it in worship to the one and only true GOD. I recall the example he gave about Michael Jackson fans -
How they scream and shout his name at the top of their lungs, how they literally faint at his presence, at the sight of his face, the sound of his voice... How they strive to be, dress and act like him, how they scramble to catch a glimpse of him with the desperate hope of getting to touch him.
How they scream and shout his name at the top of their lungs, how they literally faint at his presence, at the sight of his face, the sound of his voice... How they strive to be, dress and act like him, how they scramble to catch a glimpse of him with the desperate hope of getting to touch him.
The same applies to sports legends today. We worship them - We try to be like them, act like them, look like them, and go as far as passing it to our children and children's children.
Despite the fact that these idolaters may be crazy (and yes they are, coz these idols of theirs they worship are mere men)... despite the fact that the object of their worship is wrong, but one thing is clear - they sure do know how to worship. They display passion, devotion, adoration, loyalty, faith, total fear and submission to s/he whom they believe in.
The question is: "DO I WORSHIP GOD LIKE THESE IDOLATERS WORSHIP THEIR IDOLS"?
